NORTHERN LIGHTS & UNTOUCHED WILDERNESS
Although the wilderness environment is best appreciated ‘unconnected’, away from traffic noise and urban light pollution, our crewmembers are always equipped with satellite phones, so connection with ‘civilization’ for any reason is always an option. Our experienced and attentive crew will be guiding you on a wide variety of Lapland wilderness activities, using your moveable Tented Camp as a the base. While not on the move, wildlife watching, as well as bird spotting, are not activities but they just happen, as the region is a veritable paradise not only for Northern Lights but also for Arctic fauna. The remote setting provides the perfect conditions for viewing the jaw-dropping spectacle of the Northern Lights on cloudless nights. Finnish Lapland is one of the best places in the world to observe this extraordinary phenomenon. You are about to hear the sound of silence, and experience the natural lightness of the darkness.
DAY 1 – THE ARRIVAL
On your arrival you’ll be taken to the luxurious wilderness lodge where you will be pampered while preparing yourself for the expedition ahead of you. After delicious dinner with the focus on local ingredients, it’s time to relax in the outdoor jaguzzi, sip some sparkling wine under the Northern Lights and get used to the hot and cold experience.
DAY 2 – THE PREPARATION
Today you will get familiar with some arctic methods of travelling – by huskies & snowshoes. During the husky sled ride you will learn how to handle the pack of eager dogs and get the sense of snow. After lunch it’s time to continue preparation for your expedition, and learn how to walk on the snow without sinking in – on your snowshoes. En-route you’ll catch your dinner by just a hook and a line – if you manage to break the meter thick ice that separates you from the fish. In the evening it’s time to relax in the form of a massage, hot tub and sauna.
DAY 3 – INTO THE WILD
After a filling breakfast it’s time for your expedition of the lifetime. The huskies will pull you through the endless forest until you reach the ultimate destination – your private TravelScapes tent in the lap of wilderness. By the deep forest lake, hidden in the woods, stands the accommodation especially built for you for the coming 2 nights. Your chef will make sure you’ll experience all flavours of Lapland, while you enjoy the silence of the Arctic, and witness the lightness of our darkness. The combination of wood burning sauna and icy lake will provide you with an authentic taste of Nordic bathing. The night in the wilderness will not leave you cold, even if the temperatures drop far below the zero
DAY 4 – NEVER ENDING WHITENESS
You are about to realise how solid your sleep can be once far away from the city lights and noise pollution. The morning is already turning into a day, while the sun is still deciding behind the horizon. The blue hours invite you to hop onto your next method of travelling – the snowmobiles. Off you go into the wild, on the endless blanket of untouched snow, feeling one with the surrounding nature. You’ll enjoy a lunch en-route by the campfire, and will keep on going until your wilderness camp welcomes you for another night under the billion stars accommodation. Your chef will ensure your taste buds are awoken with another 8-course meal of Arctic flavours.
DAY 5 – MEET THE NATIVES
If you ask a Finn how they’d like to start a day, the answer would most probably be sauna. So why not to bath like a Finn and roll in the snow before setting off with your snowmobiles for one more time. Following the footsteps of the natives – the reindeer and their herders – we’ll stop by at the herder and enjoy the stories of Lapland’s eldest occupation – reindeer husbandry. After the lunch you will continue your journey towards the Arctic capital, Rovaniemi, for your final night. At the local fine dining restaurant, indulge yourself one more time with Arctic gastronomy before retiring to your hotel suite.
DAY 6 – ARCTIC CAPITAL
Enjoy the slow pace of Arctic city life, until you realise the time has come to say goodbye to Lapland. We surely hope you have enjoyed your stay in the lap of Lappish TravelScapes – the wilderness.
